The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom delivered her Easter message in a video wherein she vowed to stand up for persecuted Christians around the world, The Sun reports.

Addressing the British people, Theresa May called on Christians to be confident of the role of their faith in society. She believes that they share the same values of compassion, community and citizenship. These values, she revealed, she learned growing up as a vicar’s daughter.

The Prime Minister reminded Brits that there are many Christians from other countries who hide their faith, afraid of oppression from others who belong to the predominant religion of their nation.

“We must be mindful of Christians and religious minorities around the world who do not enjoy these same freedoms, but who practice their religion in secret and often in fear,” PM May said.

A recent study found that Christianity is the most persecuted religion in the world. May admitted that there are still many things to be done in order to protect Christians.

In addition, May urged the people to appreciate the country’s “religious tolerance and freedom of speech.” She asked them to create a safe environment where everybody could express their faith freely, without judgement or discrimination.

As the UK prepares to exit the European Union, the Prime Minister called on Brits to unite, whatever their faith, to build a stronger and fair country for all.
