Even with the vigilant groups surrounding the Collier County School Board’s textbook adoption process, they have managed to bypass the Sunshine Laws and approved a six-million dollar purchase of textbooks containing viewpoints not held in the highest regard according to Godly principles.

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

The Florida Citizens Alliance with three parents of children in the Collier County School System have filed a lawsuit against the School Board on May 31, 2017. These plaintiffs filed a Motion for Temporary Injunction to stop the board from approving the purchase of textbooks that were reviewed and approved outside of the Sunshine Laws, laws that say reviews must be done publicly, in open sight, with notice.

The motion filed was jockeyed to appear in court June 12, 2017, on a day suitable to the representatives of the school board and given such little time to be heard that two of our witness were cut.

When Circuit Judge Shenko gave his favor to the defendants, his order blasting our motion was worded almost identically to the defendant’s final argument.

Judge Shenko mentioned, “Sunshine Law violations can be cured by independent, final action in the sunshine.” But that did not happen the following day. The School Board did not discuss the merits of their selected textbooks before approving the six-million dollar purchase the very next day.

“In this case we are only beginning to decode the process by which the liberal progressive machine has usurped the people’s public school governance in order to indoctrinate our next generation to a way of thinking that is inconsistent with our nation’s founding principles. I would encourage other local school districts throughout the State and nation to review the procedures by which your textbooks are being reviewed and selected, to see if they properly follow applicable law or policy. As a society, we must be vigilant.”
Steve Bracci, Plaintiff’s attorney and parent of children in Collier County Public Schools

He that justifies the wicked and he that condemns the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord. Prov 17:15

This lawsuit is about the children. It is for the children. And it isn’t over yet. This Collier Textbook Adoption lawsuit is a line in the sand for every county in Florida. We are not about to give in or give up. We want our children to hear the unbiased truth.
